What If Bitcoin: How Much Would You Have Earned by Investing in Bitcoin?

How many times have you wondered "what if I had bought Bitcoin in 2015?" or "how much would 100 euros invested in BTC five years ago be worth today?". This simulator lets you travel back in time and discover the return you would have earned by investing in Bitcoin on any past date.

How the Simulator Works

The operation is simple and intuitive. You only need to enter three pieces of information:

  • Investment amount — the sum in euros you would have wanted to invest
  • Purchase date — when you would have bought Bitcoin
  • Sale date — when you would have sold (or today for the current value)

The simulator automatically calculates how many Bitcoin you could have purchased at the historical price on that date, and how much that investment would be worth at the selected sale date.

Simulation Example

If you had invested 1,000 euros in Bitcoin on January 1, 2017, when BTC was worth about 960 euros, you would have purchased approximately 1.04 BTC. If you had sold at the November 2021 peak (about 56,000 euros per BTC), your investment would have become approximately 58,400 euros, with a return of 5,740%.

Of course, if you had sold during the 2022 crash, the result would have been very different. This brings us to a fundamental point.

Bitcoin Price History

Bitcoin has had an extraordinarily volatile price history:

  • 2010 — less than 1 euro cent
  • 2013 — first peak above $1,000, followed by an 85% crash
  • 2017 — reached nearly $20,000, then crashed to $3,200 in 2018
  • 2021 — new record at nearly $69,000
  • 2022 — crash below $16,000

This extreme volatility means that investment returns depend enormously on the chosen entry and exit dates.

Hindsight Bias

Looking at the past and saying "I should have bought" is easy. In reality, in 2012 no one could know for certain that Bitcoin would become what it is today. Those who invested early had to endure 80-90% crashes that would have discouraged most investors. This simulator is an educational tool, not an indicator of future returns.

Important Disclaimer

This tool uses historical data for purely informational and educational purposes. Past returns are not indicative of future returns. The cryptocurrency market is extremely volatile and carries the risk of losing the entire invested capital. The following considerations are essential:

  • The historical price shown may not correspond to the exact price at which you would have actually bought, due to spreads, fees, and liquidity
  • Exchange fees, capital gains taxes, and transaction costs are not included in the calculation
  • It is not possible to predict future performance based on past results
  • Only invest what you can afford to lose entirely

This simulator is designed to satisfy curiosity and understand the historical dynamics of Bitcoin, not as a tool for making investment decisions. For informed financial choices, consult a qualified financial advisor.
